Summer Tropics

Summer brings about many a gatherings, to feast on BBQ, to cool off in the pool, to catch up over iced coffee, or simply to celebrate surviving another day of 110 degree dry heat.  Here in Vegas, the wedding season slows down in June, but it is my birth month so naturally I associate this sweltering month with parties.

To kickoff the season, we put together this fun tropical inspired table setting for an early summer dinner party.  To achieve this look, we paired simple and beautiful peonies with cut crystal vases and vintage glassware, mini silver bowls for chips and dips, our favorite blue votive holders, all placed on a fun combination of a heather grey jersey knit runner and lace tablecloth.

We are loving this look for a summer dinner party.  A little vintage, a little tropical.

Flowers and Coffee

Over the past few months, I have had the pleasure of designing seasonal displays of fresh flowers for a local (and my favorite) coffee shop, Sunrise Coffee.  This place is a true gem and I am continuously inspired by them when I walk out the doors after a nice, strong cup of coffee.  The place is always packed, which is a true testament to their goodness.  They roast their own organic, fair-trade beans in-house, which you can now find being served up throughout the valley.  Their fresh brews pare delightfully with the menu of vegetarian fare and locally made chocolates, muffins and treats.  I mean, fresh flowers and tasty coffee?  Sounds like a win-win to me.

These were the initial fall-inspired flowers I designed and I look forward to soon sharing with you some of the arrangements that have graced the counters throughout the months.

Halloween at Neon Museum's Boneyard

The Neon Museum is a local organization that preserves historic Las Vegas neon signs.  Their collection contains 150 signs dating back to the 1930's in an exhibit spread out across a two-acre lot called The Boneyard.  For their Halloween Boneyard Bash, I supplied a few reception pieces, which were some of the most fun arrangements I've ever had the pleasure of creating.  Their mascot for the event was an embellished and undead "showghoul" and the source of inspiration for the flowers.  The arrangements were equal parts fancy (feathers and rhinestone studded mums) and spooky (black branches and over-dyed leaves).

Josephine Skaught Party Flowers

These photos are from the 1st anniversary party celebrating Josephine Skaught Hairdressing's successful year.  It was one of the initial events I created as Opal Floral Design, and for that I am forever grateful to Skaught and his team.  The theme was Vintage Vegas.  Green cymbidium orchids, light lavender dendrobium orchids and a few soft feathers tied in the look.  The party was a blast, and a good excuse to turn a work event into a date night with my husband.

And if you're looking for a new cut, check out their sleek salon in Downtown's Arts District.
